Catching Life’s Fish

A wise man once said, “Here is a stick and bait by which I’ll sup this eve.” A wiser man said, “Here is a boat and net by which I’ll sup this week.” The wisest man, however, invested in the wiser man, then took Eve on a week boating trip...stopping by Sizzler’s for...steak. Sup!?

I’m trying to be wise in my investments. Really, time is about the most precious thing we can invest, and it can come with the highest returns. Here’s what I’m investing in at the moment:

WORK & SCHOOL

Yes, I know, I’m graduated from college, but this game is far from over, I’m sure. Right now I’m working at a company called Fishbowl Inventory as their marketing specialist. I do website stuff, web advertising, paid search, some graphic designs, budgeting, and a bunch of odds and ends here and there.

My plan is to work here until Fall of ’09, then possibly do an MBA program at BYU or an ivy league school. I need work experience, and this was the first thing that came up--a rather good ‘catch.’

MUSIC

I’m doing music all the time. Whether it is on the cello or voice, alone or in a group of friends, I think I’ll always have my hand in some kind of musical endeavor; I just started teaching cello lessons in early October.

FAMILY & FRIENDS

I was about to put the next topic as “dating,” but I don’t think I’d have enough to talk about right now as to deserve its own topic. The dates I do go on are sparse, but I’ve enjoyed a bigger push in family time lately, and I’m lucky to have parents and siblings that live so close. As for my close friends, they’ve pretty much all gone the way of the RM--but none of them have kids yet, so I don’t feel too far behind.

ETERNAL LIFE

Really, the last is the best of all the game here. Yes, I truly have an understanding that this trip down life’s river isn’t just going to end in a large waterfall, nor will we go around these bends again. Without doubt, my highest priority is to invest in the highest return possible, and I have confidence that as I follow the Master Fisherman, my nets will break, the storms will calm, my lamp will be lit, and my joy will be full. The best part? We don’t  have to see the oceans now to enjoy the boat ride.

Now, what kind of bait do I use for a 5 1/2 footer?  :)
